SAA Softball Pitcher of the Week - Marie Collop of Berry
Earning two complete-game wins in the circle for Berry, Marie Collop led the Berry College softball team to their first ever undefeated conference season in program history, following a three-game sweep of the Millsaps College Majors this weekend. Collop tossed all seven innings in game one against the Majors, allowing only five hits and no earned runs, while striking out seven batters, to lead her team to the 4-3 victory. Collop's defense committed four errors in the contest, but she still faced only 27 batters in her seven innings of work, only six more than the minimum. Collop then finished the week with a complete-game shutout victory in the circle on Saturday. She allowed only three hits in the outing, while striking out two batters and leading Berry to the 2-0 win. Collop faced a mere 25 batters in the contest as well, holding her opponents who have hit. 276 on the year to a .157 batting average on the weekend. Collop boasts a 14-1 record on the year, leading the conference in wins, as well as ERA (0.69), as the only pitcher in the SAA with an ERA under 1.00. Behind Collop, the Vikings are 35-2 overall, as well as a perfect 17-0 in conference play.
