ATLANTA (Sept. 11, 2017) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that Slade Dale (Berry), Jackson Townsend (Austin), and Ryder Andrews (Birmingham-Southern) have been named SAA Football Players of the Week.
Offense - Slade Dale - Junior QB - Berry
Dale was outstanding in the Vikings' 28-14 win over LaGrange, Saturday. The junior quarterback threw for 172 yards going 12-for-16 in the air. He also finished with three touchdown passes and one rushing TD to go along with 88 rushing yards on 10 carries. Additionally, he finished with a 227.2 passing efficiency rating. With Dale as the quarterback, the Vikings have started the season 2-0 and are averaging 29.0 points per game.
Defense - Jackson Townsend - Junior LB - Austin
Townsend set the tone early for Austin in a 34-12 win over Wayland Baptist. From his linebacker position, Townsend finished with six tackles and two interceptions. On his first INT, Townsend raced 82 yards for a touchdown.
Special Teams - Ryder Andrews - Junior K/P - Birmingham-Southern
As the Panthers kicker and punter, Andrews had a career day. Andrews hit a career-best 43-yard field goal to open the team's scoring against Huntingdon. He then went a perfect 5-for-5 on PATs for eight total points. He averaged a league-best 46 yards per punt with a long of 58 yards. Finally, Andrews recorded two touchbacks and had a league-best 59.9 kickoff average.
