Marcano and Whelan sweep SAA Men's Soccer awards for Oglethorpe

ATLANTA (Sept. 11, 2017) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that Oglethorpe's Ryan Marcano and Luke Whelan have been named SAA Men's Soccer Players of the Week.

Offense - Ryan Marcano - Junior MF - Oglethorpe

Oglethorpe junior midfielder Ryan Marcano continued his outstanding run for the Stormy Petrels last weekend at the Seahawk Classic. Marcano scored two goals in as many games and tallied an assist. He recorded a goal and an assist in Oglethorpe's 2-0 win against St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday. He then came back with a lone goal in a 1-0 win over Salisbury on Sunday. After being involved in all three goals Oglethorpe scored on the weekend, Marcano now is tied for the league lead in goals (3) and points (7).

Defense - Luke Whelan - Senior GK - Oglethorpe

Oglethorpe senior goalkeeper Luke Whelan had an outstanding weekend at the Seahawk Classic. Whelan did not allow a goal in 180:00 minutes of action. He recorded a total of seven saves in a pair of shutouts. Whelan stopped three shots in a 2-0 win over St. Mary's (Md.) and four in a 1-0 victory over Salisbury. On the season, Whelan is second in the SAA in goals against average (0.50), third in save percentage (.857), and fifth in saves (12).
