S&D Stars Shine At NCAA Championships (Updating)

SHENANDOAH, Texas - The 2017 NCAA Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships are underway in Texas and the SAA is represented well with a bevy of individual qualifiers competing for glory.


BSC featured three athletes competing in Saturday's Championships. Noah Young swam the 100 free swimming in a time of 47.15, finishing 47th. Rebecca Erwin also swam the 100 Free in a time of 51.67, finishing 23rd. Chaz Brouilette dove in the 3 meter event today finishing 24th with a score of 357.30.

Centre had Logan Oatman swim the 209 Back as well swimming a time of 1:48.67, finishing in 17th place.

On the women's side, Rhodes' Allie Hill swim the 200 Backstroke in a time of 2:06.54 finishing 33rd.


For BSC, Noah Young swam in the 100 Back posting a time of 51.42, earning him 33rd place. Rebecca Erwin swam the 100 Breast going 1:05.25, earning her 31st place.

Centre's Logan Oatman swam a time of 51.07 earning him 32nd place in the 100 Back. The Colonels' Sarah Hayhurst had a great day on the one meter board. In the morning Sarah scored 444.25 earning her a spot in finals. At finals Sarah scored 445.75 earning her a national runner up. This place was good enough for her to earn her second All-American performance of the meet.

Rhodes started its day with Allie Hill who swam the 200 yard Fly. Allie swam a time of 2:08.82 earning her 34th place. Her time was also good enough to set the Rhodes team record.


BSC has Chaz Brouilette competing in the 3 meter diving event while Noah Young and Rebecca Erwin compete in the 100 Yard Free. Centre has Logan Oatman swimming the 200 Yard Backstroke. Rhodes has Allie Hill competing in the 200 Backstroke


Centre's Logan Oatman recorded a seasonal best time of 52.24 in the 100 Butterfly to earn a 39th place finish at the Championships.

In diving on the men's side, Birmingham-Southern's Chaz Brouilette scored 401.86 to post a 20th place finish.

In the women's championship, Becca Erwin of Birmimgham-Southern posted a time of 1:50.99 in the 200 Freestyle consolation qualifier to place 15th overall and then moved up to 13th overall with her evening swim of 1:551.03. The 13th place finish sercured Erwin a spot on the All-America Honorable Mention squad.


Centre's Sarah Hayhurst will compete on the 1 meter board while her Colonels teammate Logan Oatman swims in the 100 Backstroke. For Birmingham-Southern, Becca Erwin will be attacking the 100 Breastroke and Noah Young will swim in the 100 Backstroke. SAA Swimmer of the Year Allie Hill of Rhodes will compete in the 200 Butterfly. 


Reigning SAA Women's Swimmer of the Year Allie Young posted a time of 2:07.36 in the 200 IM to record a 31st place finish.

In the men's 200 IM, Noah Young of Birmingham-Southern recorded a 13th place time of 1:49.92 in the morning prelims before backing it up with a 16th-place time of 1:51.45 in the evening finals. Young's performance secured him a spot on the All-America Honorable Mention team.

In the women's diving competition, Centre's Sarah Hayhurst qualified for the finals with a score of 453.80. In the finals she posted a score of 450.35 to record a fourth place finish and earn All-America status on the 3 meter.

Athletes in action today include Chaz Brouilette of Birmingham-Southern competing in diving and Becca Erwin competing in the 200 Freestyle. Logan Oatman of Centre will be swimming in the 100 Buttefly.
