Men's T&F Weekly Honors Won By Spainhour, Wells

ATLANTA - The SAA announced the men's track & field Athletes of the Week for events competed last weekend and, after voting by the league head coaches, Collin Wells of Centre captured Track Athlete of the Week while Michael Spainhour of Hendrix won Field Athlete of the Week.

SAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week - Michael Spainhour of Hendrix

Michael Spainhour (pictured at right) of Hendrix posted 14.30m (46-11) in the Triple Jump this weekend at the Central Arkansas Open, breaking his school record that was only a week old by 8 inches.  The mark ranks 14th on the National list and is the conference leader by two feet.  Earlier in the day he finished fourth in the Long Jump with a 6.89m (22-7.5) leap, another PR that leads the conference, also ranking 46th in the country.

SAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Collin Wells of Centre

Collin Wells of Centre had an amazing night at the Centre Twilight Meet on Friday.  Continuing to drop time week after week, Collin ran the 800 in a new season best time of 1:56.09 finishing at the top of a field of men of all divisions.  Collin's time ranks him 1st in the SAA going into the Championships this coming weekend.

Other notable performances from around the league:

Oglethorpe first-year middle distance runner Omari Miller had a wonderful two race performance at the Sewanee Mount Laurel Invite this past weekend. Omari finished 2nd in the men's 400 meter dash with a personal record time of 50.48 seconds. This time current ranks him 3rd in the SAA. Later in the evening Mr. Miller lead the Oglethorpe Men's 4x400 meter relay team to a new school record time of 3:25.74. This sits the men's team 2nd in the SAA heading into the association championship this week. The previous OU school record was set in 1999.

Toler Freyaldenhoven of Rhodes was the top collegiate finisher in the 800 M run at the Central Arkansas Open held at Hendrix College. Toler finished with a time of 1:57.37, besting his previous collegiate time of 2:00.10, and putting himself in the top 5 in the event in the SAA.

Kalon Johnson of Sewanee had another great series of performances at the Mountain Laurel Invitational this past weekend.  He had personal best performances in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes, improving each time by over a tenth of a second.  This marks the second weekend in a row that Kalon has PR'd in those two events.

William Blackford of Centre continues to impress in his first year of track & field ever.  William had solid performances at the Centre Twilight Meet on Friday night.  First, William jumped a new personal best in the long jump of 21'0"; this jump currently ranks William in 7th place on the SAA PL.  William also competed in the men's javelin throw where he threw 138'3"; William is currently ranked 6th on the SAA PL with a throw of 149'9".  

Sewanee senior Tyler Fishback had a lifetime best throw in the discus on Friday at the Sewanee Mountain Laurel Invitational.  His throw of 35.21 meters was 1.3 meters farther than his best throw to that point.  Tyler also had a personal best time the 100 meter dash and anchored the 4 x 100m relay.
