BSC Women's Swimming and Diving wins its second straight SAA Championship

Birmingham, Ala. (Feb. 17, 2017) – For the second straight season, the Birmingham-Southern Women's Swimming and Diving team won the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Championship, Saturday. The Panthers also won titles in 2017 and 2014.

BSC won the four-day event with 909 points. Former SAA Champion Rhodes was second with 739 points while Berry closed out the top-three with 658 points. Centre was fourth at 639 while Sewanee finished fifth with a 414 total. Finally, Hendrix closed out the scoring with a score of 257 points.

Individually, 2017 SAA Newcomer of the Year Becca Erwin of BSC was named 2018 SAA Swimmer of the Year. Alongside Erwin, multiple conference champion and All-American Sarah Hayhurst of Centre was named the SAA Diver of the Year. Brooke Boyd of Berry was named the SAA Newcomer of the Year while Viking Head Coach Paul Flinchbaugh was selected as the 2018 SAA Women's Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year.
