To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Southern Athletic Association, we’re looking back this year at some of the best moments, teams and performances in league history. This week, we highlight two of the greatest individual performances in SAA history.

Dayton Winn, Hendrix football, Oct. 3, 2015
Hendrix running back Dayton Winn racked up an incredible 437 all-purpose yards against Centre on Oct. 3, 2015. He scampered for 283 rushing yards on 52 carries, tallying five touchdowns on the day. He also returned six kicks for a total of 154 yards. The Warriors needed all of it in a 51-48 road victory. Winn set and still holds the SAA record for most rushing yards in a game and most carries in a game. He tied the league mark for most rushing touchdowns in a game, and he still sits atop the record book in that category in a three-way tie. He finished that season with 1,761 rushing yards and completed his career with 5,000.

Mike Turner, Oglethorpe men’s basketball, Dec. 3, 2016
Oglethorpe guard Mike Turner had a career day for the ages in the Stormy Petrels’ SAA opener against Berry on Dec. 3, 2016. He scored 31 points on a perfect 11-for-11 from the field overall and a dizzying 8-for-8 from 3-point range. That mark tied the school record for most baskets made in a game while shooting 100 percent from the field. Turner broke the similar school record from 3-point range. It also served as part of an NCAA Division III record 12 consecutive made 3-pointers for Oglethorpe. The career performance helped the Petrels to a 120-104 road win over the Vikings.
