SAA announces All-SAA Football awards

Full List of 2020 SAA Football All-Conference Awards

ATLANTA (March 26, 2021) - The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced the 2020 All-SAA Football awards. The award winners were selected exclusively by the league's head football coaches and the conference office.

Aaron Rideaux of Austin and Robert Shufford of Birmingham-Southern won the league's Offensive Players of the Year honor. Campbell Miller of Trinity and Clayton Bell of Centre were named the SAA Defensive Players of the Year while James Ogunrin of Trinity and Trentin Dupper of Centre captured the league's SAA Newcomers of the Year award.

Michael Edmonson of Trinity and Brock Skinner of Berry were named the SAA Special Teams Players of the Year winners. Finally, Berry Head Coach Tony Kunczeski was named SAA Coach of the Year.

Rideaux and Shufford were the top two offensive playmakers in the SAA. Rideaux led the league in receiving with 438 yards and four touchdowns. Shufford was the top running back in the conference. He was the only running back in the SAA to average over 100 yards per game. Shufford averaged 109 yards per contest and also scored five rushing touchdowns.

On the opposite side of the ball, Miller and Bell were forces on the defensive line. Miller finished the season 6.5 tackles for a loss while Bell posted a league-leading 7.5 TFL. Bell also added a league-leading six sacks while Miller got to the quarterback three times.

On special teams, Edmonson was a threat again in the return game. The reining SAA Special Teams Player of the Year averaged 124 all purpose yards per game and scored three touchdowns this spring. Skinner was a threat to opponents kickers. One example of his outstanding special teams play was during the SAA Championship game. In that contest, Skinner blocked a punt and caused a fumble on a punt return.

In his first season as Centre's quarterback, Dupper was outstanding. The Colonel signal caller averaged 195 passing yards per game and threw for seven touchdowns. He also averaged 64.5 rushing yards per game and added another three scores. In his first season at Trinity, Ogunrin was great on defense. He finished the shortened season with 27 tackles, one sack, and one tackle for a loss.

Finally, Kunczewski led Berry to its fifth straight SAA title. The four-time SAA Coach of the Year has built a program that is a consistent top-25 team each season. This past year, Berry led the league in passing and passing defense. The Vikings also ranked second in scoring defense limiting opponents to 16.8 points per game. On offense, the Vikings averaged 29.8 ppg.
