Trinity garnered two of a possible eight first-place votes to secure the top spot in the inaugural SAA football preseason poll. The Tigers earned 55 total points to best second-place Berry, the five-time defending conference champions, by just 2 points in the ranking. Hendrix came in third with 46 points, while Birmingham-Southern filled out the top half of the poll with 40.
The league’s football coaches voted on the poll, each predicting the season’s eventual order of finish 1-8. A first-place vote garnered a team 8 points, a second-place vote netted them 7 points, a third-place vote 6, etc.
The 2021 football season kicks off this week, with Millsaps getting their season started on Thursday night and the conference’s remaining seven teams in action Saturday.
