SAA Announces 2022 Football All-Conference Teams

Complete All-SAA Football Teams

ATLANTA, Ga. (November 22, 2022) – The Southern Athletic Association has announced its 2022 major award winners and All-Conference teams. 
 
Trinity’s Tucker Horn repeated as Offensive Player of the Year while Armon Wells of Centre was named the Defensive Player of the Year. BJ Stewart of Trinity is the Special Teams Player of the Year, Bryce Herring of Berry the Newcomer of the Year and Trinity leader Jerheme Urban the Coach of the Year for the third time in his career.

Award winners and All-SAA teams were selected by the conference's eight head coaches. 
 
Horn (Senior / Graham, Texas) led the SAA and ranked nationally in every passing category. The senior completed 68 percent of his passes, throwing for 2,376 yards and 21 touchdowns during the regular season. He ranks 21st in Division III in completion percentage and 36th nationally in efficiency (155.1). Horn accounted for at least one touchdown in every game this season, four times throwing for three TDs in a game.
 
Wells (Senior / Louisville, Ky.) was named SAA Defensive Player of the Week four times during the 2022 season. He topped the SAA with 93 total tackles, including 62 solo stops. His 8.5 sacks are the second most in the conference this year. The fifth-year senior ranked 16th nationally in tackles for loss (19) and sixth in forced fumbles (4). Wells has two interceptions on the year and twice scored touchdowns for the Colonels.
 
Stewart (Sophomore / Shreveport, La.) emerged as one of the top returners in the nation this season. Three times he ran punts all the way back for touchdowns and averaged 32.9 yards per his 18 returns. He leads Division III in punt return touchdowns and is third nationally in returns per game. Stewart also ranks second in the nation in kickoff returns, averaging 37.8 yards per return with a touchdown. The sophomore closed the SAA season with 141 punt return yards and a pair of touchdowns against Sewanee.
 
Herring (Freshman / Acworth, Ga.) had a breakout first collegiate season, hauling in 31 receptions for 452 yards and five touchdowns, ranking tied for third among SAA wide receivers. The newcomer averaged 14.6 yards per catch on the year. Herring went off against Birmingham-Southern, catching seven balls for 109 yards. He recorded his first multi-score game at Sewanee with a pair of receiving touchdowns.
 
Urban is in his ninth season leading his alma mater and guided the Tigers to an undefeated regular season and second-straight SAA Championship. Trinity has won 26-straight fall regular season games and ran the table in the SAA each of the last two seasons. In his career, Urban carries a 35-7 mark in SAA games. Trinity is back in the 2022 NCAA Playoffs and defeated Hardin-Simmons in the first round on Saturday. They will meet powerhouse Mary Hardin-Baylor in the second round on November 26.
