ATLANTA, Ga. (November 7, 2022) – Sewanee earned three major awards and Centre one to highlight the 2022 Southern Athletic Association All-Conference teams.

Mills Mullen of Centre was named the SAA Offensive Player of the Year for the second time in her career. Sewanee’s Kate Thomson was voted the Defensive Player of the Year and teammate Kylene Monaghan is the Newcomer of the Year. The Tigers Greg Cathell was tabbed the SAA Coach of the Year.

Mullen (Senior / Charleston, W.Va.) is a three-time All-SAA honoree and earned SAA Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2021. This season, she leads the conference in both goals (9) and assists (11) for a league-best 29 points. She has two multi-goal games this season and three times tallied two assists.

Thomson (Sophomore / New Orleans, La.) burst on the scene in 2022, leading Sewanee to the outright SAA regular season championship. She is second on the team in minutes played with 1525 and leads a Tigers defense that surrendered just 12 goals through 19 games. The defender also has an assist and two goals on the season, both game winners.

Kylene Monaghan (Freshman / Blacksburg, Va.) led the Sewanee offensive attack with five goals and three assists. Of her 40 shots, 17 got on frame and three resulted in game winning goals. She is one of the most reliable players on the squad and went 2-for-2 in penalty kick situations this season. Monaghan enjoyed a big game against Maryville with one goal and one assists on the Tigers way to a 3-1 win.

In three seasons, Cathell has built Sewanee into one of the top teams in the SAA, leading the Tigers to the 2022 SAA regular season championship. His squad has advanced to the SAA Tournament Championship each of the last two seasons. In 2022, the Tigers posted a 13-4-2 record overall and program-best 6-1 mark in SAA play while also boasting the SAA Defensive Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.

Voting was conducted among the SAA’s eight head coaches.
