ATLANTA, Ga. (November 7, 2022) – Berry took three major awards and five first-team spots, highlighting the 2022 All-Southern Athletic Association volleyball teams.
Fresh off SAA regular season and tournament titles, Berry’s
Peyton Breissinger was named the Offensive Player of the Year and
Kate Whittle took home Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Caitlyn Moriarty was voted the SAA’s Coach of the Year.
Ally Knueven of Centre earned the SAA Newcomer of the Year award.
Breissinger (Senior / Cincinnati, Ohio) has been All-SAA all four years of her career, earning Honorable Mention as a freshman, second team as a sophomore and first team the last two seasons. A two-time SAA Player of the Week during the year, Breissinger is third in the SAA with 3.93 points per game while ranking third with 3.20 kills per set. The senior hit .256 this season, the eighth-best mark in the conference. She also ranks ninth in the SAA with 322 digs and second in service aces with 48.
Whittle (Sophomore / Louisville, Ky.) was the SAA Player of the Week three times during her breakout season. She leads the SAA and is ranked 11
th nationally with 6.12 digs game. Her 581 total digs is a top-50 mark nationally. Whittle’s 37 digs against Washington & Lee were the second most in a match among SAA players this year. She also twice posted 25 digs in three set matches, both SAA tournament victories.
Knueven (Freshman / Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) ranked fourth in the SAA with 2.75 kills a set. She recorded 17 kills in a three-set match with Sewanee, the fourth-best mark in the SAA this season. Knueven’s 281 total kills ranks fourth in the conference.
Moriarty was named the SAA Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her career. She led the 10
th-ranked Vikings to a 13-1 record in the conference and has her squad 23-4 heading into the NCAA Tournament.
Voting for the All-SAA teams was conducted among the conference’s eight head coaches.
