The SAA named Oglethorpe's Octavia Allan, Hendrix's Connor Escajeda, Birmingham-Southern's Jalilah Loving and Berry's Christian Rivera as their SAA track and field athletes of the week, as selected by the league's coaches.
SAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week - Octavia Allan, Oglethorpe
Freshman Octavia Allan had a wonderful showing this past weekend in the Pole Vault at the Emory Thrills in the Hills Open. She jumped 3.45m to finish runner-up in the competition. Octavia was 1
st out of DIII competition and is currently ranked 3
rd in the SAA and 3
rd in the South Region. Her 3.45m jump also bested her own school record.
SAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week - Connor Escajeda, Hendrix
Escajeda finished 2nd in the 400-meter dash at the Southern Arkansas Dan Veach Invitational, posting a time of 49.48 seconds. He also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.42 seconds. He is currently ranked sixth in Division III in the 400 meters.
SAA Women's Track Athlete of the Week - Jalilah Loving, Birmingham-Southern
Jailah Loving (FR) had a solid weekend at the Emory Thrills on the Hills meet. Loving had a personal best in the 100-meter hurdles, (15.49) finishing 4
th in the field and currently leading the SAA in that event, as well as having a strong showing in the 200 meters (26.44) as well as the 100 (12.71). Each one of these performances rank Jailah among the top 3 in all of events.
SAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week - Christian Rivera, Berry
Rivera took 3
rd in the Javelin at the KSU Don McGarey Invitational behind a D1 athlete and the current NAIA National leader in the event. His throw of 55.80m is a new Berry school record and is currently the best throw in the SAA, D3 South Region, and #19 in the nation for D3.
