The SAA announced their All-SAA baseball team and award winners Wednesday, as selected by the league's coaches. Berry's Spence Johns took home SAA Player of the Year honors, Sewanee's Logan Martin notched the SAA Pitcher of the Year accolade, Oglethorpe's Sam Mills was voted as the SAA Newcomer of the Year, and Millsaps head coach Jim Page garnered the SAA Coach of the Year award.
Johns enjoyed an outstanding season for the Vikings at the designated hitter position, finishing second in the league among NCAA qualifiers in both batting average (.438) and on-base percentage (.541). He also slugged .591 and recorded two home runs, seven doubles, four triples and 36 RBIs. He tallied 60 hits and 49 runs.
Martin toiled on a Sewanee team that had a tough season, but he shone as the most outstanding pitcher in the league. He led the SAA in strikeouts with 98 and finished second in strikeouts per nine innings with 12.72. The former mark currently places him eighth in the country. Martin finished his season with a 3.89 ERA in nine starts and 11 total appearances comprising 69.1 innings. He allowed just 30 earned runs and 25 walks to go with his 98 strikeouts and threw a pair of complete games.
Mills enjoyed a breakout rookie season for the Stormy Petrels, hitting .352 and getting on base at a .404 clip. He tallied 50 hits on the year, including nine doubles and three home runs. He also drew 10 walks and recorded 31 RBIs.
Page led his Millsaps team to a 24-21 overall record and an 11-10 mark in conference play. His Majors finished sixth in the SAA regular season, but advanced through its SAA tournament pod to the SAA Championship Series, beating No. 3 seed Rhodes twice to do so. It marked an impressive turnaround for the Majors, who had suffered losing seasons in each of the previous three years.
