Barker, Sigmon, Gainey and Keelan head All-SAA women's lacrosse team

The SAA announced the recipients of their All-SAA women's lacrosse awards Tuesday. Baylee Barker of Rhodes won Offensive Player of the Year, with Sewanee's Brooke Sigmon taking Newcomer of the Year honors. Birmingham-Southern's Carly Gainey won Defensive Player of the Year and Rhodes head coach Meghan Keelan garnering the Coach of the Year award.

Barker was fantastic on the offensive end of the field for the Lynx. She's currently third in the conference in goals with 69, second in goals per game with 4.31, sixth in points with 81 and fifth in points per game with 5.06. She's also second in shots per game (8.75), shots on goal per game (6.75) and draw controls per game (5.69). For good measure, she's ninth in caused turnovers per game with 1.75.

Sigmon enjoyed an outstanding freshman season for the Tigers, scoring 20 goals and grabbing 13 assists over the course of 19 games, 17 of which she started for the Tigers. That gave her 33 points for the season, In addition, she scooped 67 ground balls and caused 39 turnovers. Her 2.05 caused turnovers per game and her 3.53 ground balls per game place her amont the top 100 in all of Division III in those categories.

Gainey is among the top 20 in the nation in both of those categories, finishing tops in the conference in both as well. She currently sits 11th in the nation with 3.11 caused turnovers per game and 20th with 4.53 ground balls per game. In total, she caused 59 turnovers and scooped 86 ground balls on the year, while securing 14 draw controls.

Keelan led the Lynx to their seventh straight SAA championship this past weekend, her team defeating Sewanee 25-12 Sunday in Memphis, Tennessee, to win the title. Rhodes finished the regular season 14-3, and also went a perfect 6-0 on the conference slate, marking the fifth consecutive year they haven't lost an SAA contest and their sixth straight league regular season crown.
