Men’s Swimming Report – Nov. 1

Atlanta, Ga. – SAA men’s swimming saw five schools in action over the weekend. Sewanee was joined by Berry at the Tigers six-team, home invitational. The Vikings took fourth in the event while host Sewanee was fifth.
 
Centre swam in a tri-meet with Midway and Campbellsville and picked up a pair of victories. Hendrix won its own relay event on Friday and came back the next day to post a convincing victory at the Hendrix Classic. Millsaps took on Centenary in a dual and came out on top 121-90.

Athletes of the Week:
SWIMMING: Nick Fonzo | Berry | First Year | Carlsbad, Calif.  -  Enjoyed a standout meet at the Sewanee Invitational. The first year posted the SAA’s fastest time in the 50-yard backstroke (24.73) and 100-yard backstroke (52.12). Fonzo also swam the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.96 and the 100-yard butterfly in 52.91, the conference’s third fastest time in the event.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Ben Anderson (Millsaps) – posted four strong swims to help Millsaps beat Centenary head-to-head. He won the 50-yard freestyle (21.89), the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.24) as well as the 200-yard IM (2:14.21). Additionally, he helped the men's 200-yard medley relay team earn a win (1:46.47).
  • Zane Shaner (Hendrix) - won both his events, the 100-yard butterfly with the time of 51.65 and the 100-yard IM with the time of 54.73. Both times rank No. 2 in the SAA. On Saturday, he placed third in the 200-yard butterfly with at SAA top-time of 2.02.70 and the 100-yard freestyle with the time of 49.44.
  • Kai Oddo (Centre) - led the Centre men's swimmers in a double-dual that saw two Colonel team wins. Oddo anchored the winning 400-yard medley relay with a time of 48.66, won in the 100-yardbackstroke (53.84) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.57), and then anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay in 21.84.
