SAA Releases Men’s Basketball Tournament Bracket

ATLANTA, Ga. (February 15, 2023) – The regular season finale on Wednesday night shuffled the final standings and set seeding for the 2023 Southern Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Tournament.
 
Quarterfinal games are slated for Sunday, February 19 on the campuses of the four top-seeds. The remaining highest seed will then host the semifinals on Saturday, February 25 and championship game on Sunday, February 26.
 
2023 SAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Quarterfinals;
No. 1 Berry vs. No. 8 Centre – Mt. Berry, Ga. – 3 p.m. ET
No. 2 Rhodes vs. No. 7 Millsaps – Memphis, Tenn. – 3 p.m. CT
No. 3 Sewanee vs. No. 6 Oglethorpe – Sewanee, Tenn. – 2 p.m. CT
No. 4 Birmingham-Southern vs. No. 5 Hendrix – 2 p.m. CT
 
Top-seed Berry posted just the second unbeaten SAA regular season in conference history, matching Birmingham-Southern’s 14-0 mark during the 2015-16 season. The Vikings won their league games by an average of 15.6 points and are riding a 15-game winning streak into the postseason. Over the last three years, Berry is 36-2 against SAA competition. Eight-seed Centre drew the Vikings in the first round and will visit the Cage Center on Sunday afternoon.
 
Second-seed Rhodes carries a five-game winning streak into the postseason, finishing the season with a 10-4 mark in the conference. The Lynx will match-up with seven-seed Millsaps in the quarterfinals at Mallory Gym in Memphis. Rhodes owns one SAA Tournament title, winning the crown in 2017.
 
Sewanee earned the No. 3 seed after a 9-5 regular season in conference play. Standout Russ Marr won the SAA scoring title for the Tigers and will play host to six-seed Oglethorpe in the quarterfinals. Sewanee also has one conference tournament trophy, winning in 2019, also as the three-seed.
 
Birmingham-Southern went 8-6 in the league and will be the No. 4 seed in the SAA Tournament. The Panthers will welcome No. 5 Hendrix, who tied with Oglethorpe at 5-9 in the conference but won the tiebreaker to earn the trip to BSC.
