ATLANTA, Ga. (April 23, 2023) – A wild final weekend of the Southern Athletic Association regular season set the tone for the 2023 SAA Baseball Tournament opening round, to be played across four sites April 28-30.
The top-four teams in the standings will host the bottom-four in a best of three series to determine the field for championship weekend.
SAA regular season champion Birmingham-Southern is the top seed, posting a 14-7 mark in league play. The Panthers have spent much of the season ranked among the nation’s top-five and will look to regroup in the postseason, having dropped their last five. BSC will host eight-seed Oglethorpe in the opening round. The Stormy Petrels went 4-17 in the SAA and took one game off BSC in the school’s regular season series.
Centre and Rhodes both finished 13-8 and tied for second place in the final standings. The Colonels earned the No. 2 seed in the postseason by way of a series win over the Lynx back in March.
Centre will welcome seven-seed Sewanee to Kentucky in the opening round while Rhodes will host six-seed Millsaps.
Hendrix has won its last four, including a sweep of BSC to close the regular season, and earned the No. 5 seed with a 12-9 mark in the league. The Warriors are set to face five-seed Berry opening weekend.
