Men’s and Women’s Golf Heads to GreyStone for SAA Championship

DICKSON, Tenn. (April 27, 2023) - GreyStone Golf Club in Dickson, Tennessee will serve as the host venue for the 2023 Southern Athletic Association men’s and women’s golf championships.

Teams are scheduled for 54-holes, playing one round each day April 28-30.

Women’s Preview
Centre enters the 2023 championship as the two-time defending SAA champions. Last season at Chateau Elan Golf Club, the Colonels posted a 29 stroke win over runner-up Sewanee. Rhodes finished third. Rylee Suttor of Centre took medalist honors for the second-straight year, shooting one-over with rounds of 71-78-68. Her final round set a SAA Championship single-round scoring record and vaulted her ahead of runner-up Sarah Hsu of Oglethorpe.
 
Rhodes owns the most SAA titles with four. Centre has three women’s golf crowns while Berry and Sewanee have one each.
 
Centre is ranked No. 11 in the latest Women’s Golf Coaches Association National Poll. Sewanee checked in at No. 19, Oglethorpe No. 21 and Rhodes No. 23.
 
In the Golfstat ranking, Centre sits No. 12, Sewanee No. 18, Oglethorpe No. 21 and Rhodes No. 22.
 
Individually, Hsu of Oglethorpe is ranked second in NCAA Division III with an adjusted scoring average of 72.83. The three-time All-America selection has four top-five finishes this season, including two tournament victories. Centre’s Grace Walker is the 32nd ranked player in the nation with an adjusted scoring average of 75.59. Teammate Anika Rana is No. 44.
 
Men’s Preview
Oglethorpe ran away with the 2022 championship, shooting a seven-over score of 883 at Chateau Elan Golf Club. Berry was second at 28-over and Birmingham-Southern third (+35). Blake Farbman of Berry took medalist honors, hanging scores of 73-72-76 for a two-over score of 221. Oglethorpe grabbed the next four spots. Sam Karman, Tripp Murphy and Beck Lewis tied for second while Connor Murphy tied for fifth.
 
The Stormy Petrels have the most SAA titles at four while Berry has won the championship three times. Centre and Rhodes have both won once.
 
The latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches Poll has Oglethorpe ranked No. 9 and Sewanee No. 17. Berry and Rhodes received votes.
 
Oglethorpe is nine and Sewanee 16 in the GolfStat Division III rankings. Berry checked in at No. 28 and Rhodes 48th.
 
Sewanee’s Pearse Lucas is the top-ranked individual golfer in the SAA, coming in at No. 13 in the Golfstat rankings. The sophomore has an adjusted scoring average of 72.69 this season. Michael O’Sullivan of OU is ranked No. 29 individually in Golfstat with an adjusted scoring average of 73.27. Teammate Beck Lewis is 46th and BSC’s Tanne Bronnum is 47th.
