CANTON, Ga. (November 1, 2024) – The Southern Athletic Association has announced its men’s soccer All-Conference teams and major award winners for the 2024 season.
Oglethorpe swept Player of the Year honors with Adrian Levey winning on the offensive side and Daniel Amah being named the top defensive player. Matthew Sucato of SAA Champion Rhodes was voted Newcomer of the Year and the Lynx Matt Lamb earned Coach of the Year honors.
All-SAA voting and selection of the All-Sportsmanship team was conducted among the conference’s seven head coaches.
Offensive Player of the Year – Adrian Levy (Oglethorpe/Senior/Weston, Fla.) – An All-SAA first teamer last season, Levy is the second-straight and fourth overall Stormy Petrel to earn the SAA’s top offensive award. The senior tied for the league lead with three goals in conference play as part of eight overall goals this season. Levy was the SAA Athlete of the Week on September 23, scoring the game winner over nationally ranked Covenant and picking up a goal and assist against Maryville. Levy had a huge night at Centre, scoring two goals to spark a 4-2 OU victory.
Defensive Player of the Year – Daniel Amah (Oglethorpe/Senior/Kennesaw, Ga.) – The leader of an Oglethorpe backline that allowed just six goals in six conference games, Amah is the seventh Stormy Petrel to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors. The senior logged 1077 minutes during the season and orchestrated seven shutouts, including three against conference opponents. Amah also bolstered the offense with two goals and an assist on the season.
Newcomer of the Year – Matthew Sucato (Rhodes/First Year/Dallas, Texas) – A defender from Dallas, Sucato made an immediate impact for the Lynx and led his squad to the 2024 SAA regular season championship. He played and started in all 14 games, staying on the field the full 90, nine times. Rhodes surrendered just eight goals in conference play with a pair of shutouts, including a 2-0 win over Hendrix that clinched the SAA title.
Coach of the Year – Matt Lamb (Rhodes/Seventh Season) – The Lynx head coach since 2018, Lamb led Rhodes to its second conference title in the past three seasons and will host the SAA Tournament semifinals and finals. His squad went 10-4 overall and 4-2 in the league, outscoring teams by 26-15 count. Lamb mentored 10 players named to All-SAA teams this season, including the Newcomer of the Year and a pair of First Teamers.
