Top-seed Berry Headlines SAA Men’s Basketball Bracket

ATLANTA, Ga. (February 14, 2024) – Winners of its last 13 in a row, top-seed Berry will lead the field of eight into the Southern Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Tournament.
 
Quarterfinals – Sunday, February 18
No. 1 Berry vs. No. 8 Hendrix – Mount Berry, Ga. – 3pm ET
No. 2 Birmingham-Southern vs. No. 7 Rhodes – Birmingham, Ala. – 2pm CT
No. 3 Oglethorpe vs. No. 6 Millsaps – Atlanta, Ga. - 2pm ET
No. 4 Centre vs. No. 5 Sewanee – Danville, Ky. – 3pm ET
 
The Vikings (16-9, 13-1 SAA) have not dropped a conference game since its opener to Oglethorpe in December. Since then, Mick Hedgepeth’s squad has won its SAA contests by an average of 20 points a game. Berry will play host to eight-seed Hendrix (6-19, 3-11 SAA) to open tournament play. Birmingham Southern (15-10, 9-5 SAA) secured the No. 2 seed in the bracket by closing the regular season with a home sweep. The Panthers are set to host seven-seed Rhodes (10-15, 4-10 SAA) in the first round.
 
Oglethorpe (10-14, 7-7 SAA) is the three-seed in the tournament, winning a three-way tiebreaker for the spot by way of their win over Berry to start the conference slate. The Stormy Petrels will welcome No. 6 Millsaps (7-17, 6-8 SAA) for a quarterfinal game. Centre (12-13) and Sewanee (11-14) both finished the season 7-7 in conference play, but the Colonels won the tiebreaker and will be the No. 4 seed while Sewanee landed at No. 5. The two teams will play in Danville, Kentucky on Sunday, February 18 in the first round.
 
The semifinals will be played on the campus of the highest remaining seed on Saturday, February 25 with the championship game set for Sunday, February 26.
