ATLANTA, Ga. (March 15, 2024) – After leading their team to the inaugural SAA Women’s Indoor Track & Field championship, Centre’s
Sophie Bouldin,
Jasmine Claunch, and
Serena McNeilly gave the Colonels a sweep of the Athlete of Year awards.
Bouldin was the high-point scorer of the SAA championship meet and was voted the Track Athlete of the Year. Claunch was named the Field Athlete of the Year and McNeilly the Newcomer of the Year.
Bouldin had a very busy weekend on her home track at the conference championship. She won two events with SAA record setting performances. She took gold in the mile by six seconds, crossing the line in 5:21.82, and posted a two second win in the 800 with a time of 2:22.18. The sophomore ran a leg in the Colonel’s winning distance medley relay (12:34.66) and was also runner-up in the 5k with a time of 18:52.
Claunch was also a double-winner, sweeping the horizonal jumps. In the triple jump, the senior posted a winning mark of 12.14 meters, .75 further than second place and a conference record. She was just as impressive in the long jump, winning with a leap of 5.56 meters. Claunch was a national qualifier in the triple jump and earned All-American honors, finishing fifth in the nation with a jump of 12.04 meters.
McNeilly won the high jump and was runner-up in the long and triple jumps at the SAA Championship. The first year didn’t have a miss through the first four heights to win the high jump, clearing 1.68 meters, over half a meter in front of the runner-up. She was second to Claunch in both the long jump, with a distance of 5.48 meters, and triple jump with a mark of 11.49 meters. McNeilly was a national qualifier in the high-jump and finished 11
th, clearing 1.63 meters.
