ATLANTA, Ga. (April 25, 2024) – After securing its 10th Southern Athletic Association men’s tennis title, Sewanee swept postseason major awards to highlight 2024 All-SAA teams.

Tigers senior Jordan Theron was named the Athlete of the Year while teammate Henry Hyden was voted Newcomer of the Year. Sewanee leader Felix Mann earned his third SAA Coach of the Year accolade.

Theron started the season with a historic run in the fall, winning the ITA Cup in singles and teaming with Quinn Wicklund to win the doubles national championship. He posted a 4-1 record in conference play at No. 1 singles, with all four wins coming in straight sets. The South African was named SAA Athlete of the Week on February 27 after going 3-0 at No. 1 singles at the ITA National Indoor Championship. Theron joins Andres Carro, Jack Gray, and Avery Schober (twice) as SAA Men’s Tennis Athletes of the Year from Sewanee

Hyden made an immediate impact in his first collegiate season, going unbeaten in SAA action; posting a 2-0 record at No. 3, 1-0 at No. 4, and 3-0 at No. 5. Only once he was forced to a third set during the conference season. Hyden was voted SAA Athlete of the Week on March 12, going 2-0 in a week against Westmont and 35th-ranked Vassar. The Daniel Island, S.C. native is the sixth Tiger to earn SAA Newcomer of the Year honors, joining Quinn Wicklund (2022), Brandon Dali (2019), Jack Gray (2016), Avery Schober (2014), and Connor Winkler (2013).

Mann led Sewanee to an 18-4 dual match record this season, including another perfect 7-0 mark in conference play. Heading into the postseason, his Tigers are ranked No. 10 in the nation and No. 2 in the region. Theron is the top-ranked singles while and is also ranked No. 1 in doubles with partner Quinn Wicklund. Mann was also voted SAA Coach of the Year in 2022 and 2019, surpassing current Tigers Athletic Director Shackelford (2018, 2014) with his third honor this season.
