SAA Women’s Soccer Report – Sept. 16, 2024

CANTON, Ga.  – After going 1-1 to start the season, Centre has rattled off five-straight victories to sit atop the SAA women’s soccer standings. The Colonels have outscored opponents 11-2 during the streak, including shutouts of Transylvania, Denison and Rose-Hulman last week. Sewanee has surrendered just one goal and is the league’s lone unbeaten at 3-0-3. Rhodes at 3-2 and Oglethorpe at 3-2-1 are also above .500 in the early season.

Athletes of the Week:
OFFENSIVE: Alex Bremond | Millsaps | Sophomore | Slidell, La.  - was crucial in helping the Majors finish 1-1-1 on the week. Her breakout performance came against Tougaloo on Sunday, where she scored a hat trick and added four assists. She fired 11 shots with five on target in the 12-0 win. Bremond also attempted five shots with four on goal and added an assist in a 2-2 draw versus LeTourneau on Tuesday. Additionally, she added two shot attempts and a shot on goal in a 1-0 defeat to Ozarks on Friday.
 
DEFENSIVE: Lindsay Carr | Centre | Senior | Charleston, W.Va. - The reigning SAA Defensive Player of the Year and her Centre defense have shut out three straight opponents in Transylvania, Denison, and Rose-Hulman. The team is holding opponents to just 0.71 goals per game which is second best in the SAA.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Grace Plummer (Centre) - scored the game-winning goal in a match at Transylvania to start a three-victory week for the Colonels. It was the first goal of the freshman's career and came in a pivotal road match. She also assisted on the other goal in that 2-0 win.  
  • Emily Lozano (Millsaps) - helped the Majors finish the week 1-1-1. She collected six saves in a 2-2 draw against LeTourneau on Tuesday, made a save in a defensive 1-0 loss to the University of the Ozarks on Friday and played 64:26 in a 12-0 triumph over Tougaloo on Sunday.
