SAA Women’s Golf Report – Sept. 19, 2024

CANTON, Ga.  – Six SAA women’s golf teams descended on Memphis to compete in the Joe and Lee Duncan Invitational. Rhodes hosted the event at Mirimichi Golf Course. Mississippi College ran away with the team title by 14 strokes. The host Lynx posted a 17-over score to finish runner-up wile Centre had the best final round and jumped into third place. Sewanee was fourth, Oglethorpe fifth, Berry ninth, and Millsaps 12th.

Athletes of the Week:
Elizabeth Powell | Oglethorpe | Junior | Roswell, Ga. – Powell finished the Stormy Petrel’s fall opener on top of the leaderboard, taking co-medalist honors at the Joe and Lee Duncan Invitational. She opened the event with a one-under 71, which featured a bogey-free front nine. She then came back the next day and fired another 71 to finish the tournament two-under.  For the weekend, she racked up six birdies.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Sydney Bowes (Berry) - Bowes efforts secured the Vikings 9th overall in the Joe and Lee Duncan Invitational. She jumped from 26th to 16th place from day one to day two. In round one she shot a 79 (+7) and in round two she shot her collegiate low round of even par (72) with three birdies.
  • Janie Morgan (Centre) - led the Colonels through both rounds of the Joe and Lee Duncan Invitational. From 16th in round one to 5th in day two, Morgan made an 11 seed jump up the leaderboard between her two rounds. Scratching her first round in the 60s with the Colonels, the junior claimed a piece of fifth place. Her final combined score was a 145 (76-69), assisting to the Colonels under 300 score for round two. 
  • Ava Bankston (Rhodes) - finished the Joe and Lee Duncan Invitational in 4th Place with scores of 71-73 to shoot even par and lead her school to a second place finish. She lead her school to beat all of the Conference teams in the event. 
  • Sabrina Nesbitt (Sewanee) - posted a career-best round and tied for 10th in the first tournament of the fall for Sewanee at the Joe and Lee Duncan Invitational on Tuesday at Mirimichi Golf Club in Millington, Tenn. The Newport Beach, Calif., native registered 27 pars with two birdies over the 36 holes, carding rounds of 79-71. She collected pars on the first nine and 12 of the first 13 holes of the second round, with only a bogey at No. 10. Nesbitt registered birdies on a pair of par-4’s, the 14th and 16th holes, for the second-lowest round of the day at one-under 71. She recorded a two-day total of 150, tying for 10th individually.
