Sewanee’s 24-Under Earns Tigers SAA Men’s Golf Championship

DICKSON, Tenn. (April 27, 2025) – Sewanee turned a one-shot lead into a six-stroke victory on Sunday, running away from the field to win the 2025 SAA Men’s Golf Championship.

The SAA title is a second for the Tigers, having also won in 2021.  
 
Sewanee came into the day one shot ahead of Oglethorpe for the team lead. They then fired an eight-under 280 to close the tournament 24-under and pull away from the Stormy Petrels by six strokes. The Tiger score of 840  (277-283-280) is second best final score in SAA tournament history, just one stroke off Oglethorpe’s record of 839 set in 2023.
 
Oglethorpe was three-under for the final round and finished the weekend 18-under (282-279-285), taking second place. Berry was also in red numbers, shooting scores of 293-284-284 to post a three-under 861.
 
Sewanee’s Elias Becker finished a stellar weekend with a five-under 67 to grab medalist honors. The junior was 10-under over the three rounds, posting scores of 68-71-67. He birdied four of the first eight holes and was solid over the closing nine to tie the record for the lowest final round in tournament history.
 
Jay Carr of Berry and Oglethorpe’s Ryan Dunn were also in the 60s on Sunday and tied for second at six-under. Carr matched Becker’s 67 and jumped five spots on the leaderboard to go along with rounds f 72-71 to start the event. Dunn carded scores of 72-70-68. Pearse Lucas of Sewanee and Jackson Hiller of Oglethorpe tied for fourth at five-under.
 
Becker and teammate Turner Chiles were voted the co-SAA Athletes of the Year while Chiles was also named Rookie of the Year. Sewanee, led by Keenan Hickton, was honored as the SAA Coaching Staff of the Year.
