JACKSON, Miss. - Centre Women's Soccer cruised by Millsaps, 4-0, in the regular season finale on Sunday. With Trinity losing on Sunday, the Colonels also clinched the outright SAA regular season title for the 10th time in conference history and the first since 2021.
The Colonels entered the game knowing the stakes and set out to leave no doubt from the start. Zara McCarthy needed less than 3 minutes to score her 10th goal of the season off a slick pass from Savannah Mooney to put the Colonels on the board. McCarthy went "oops, I did it again" in the 6th minute with her 11th of the year on a pass from Tessa Miles for a 2-0 lead. Centre kept attacking and would see Tessa Miles call her own number in the 32nd minute. Her first goal of the season pushed the Centre lead to 3 at halftime.
Hannah Hogg made it 4-0 in the 60th minute after nearly scoring just 6 minutes prior. The freshman striker's second goal of the year left little doubt on the end result. With a share of the regular season title locked up, word soon came in that Trinity was upset at Maryville by a 1-0 result to give Centre the outright title.
Centre dominated all facets of the game against Millsaps. The Colonels outshot the Majors, 31-0, in total, including 9-0 on goal. Centre's offense also drew 9 corners, while the defense conceded none.
With Sunday's results, Centre finishes the conference slate at 7-0-1 and is guaranteed the #1 seed for the SAA Tournament and an opening round bye. The Colonels will take on the 4/5 winner in the tournament semifinals on Friday, November 6th. The tournament is being hosted by Berry.
