MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – Trinity University Women's Soccer (14-1-1) is headed to the SAA Championship final after a 2-1 double-overtime win over Sewanee (11-5-3) in the semifinals on Friday afternoon.
Talia Camin (Houston, Texas / Memorial) scored both Trinity goals, including the game-winner just 48 seconds into the second overtime.
The Tigers struck early. In the ninth minute,
Lila Brackin (Dallas, Texas / Lake Highlands) sent a cross into the box and Camin ran through it, finishing into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
From there, most of the match was played in the middle of the field. Sewanee broke through in the 78th minute, scoring off a corner kick to tie the game 1-1 and send it to overtime.
Both teams came close in the first overtime. A Sewanee shot hit the corner where the crossbar meets the post, and in the final seconds of the period Brackin ripped a shot from the top of the box that also hit the post.
Camin didn't let the second overtime go long. In the 101st minute,
Kylie Harris (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) made an overlapping run past
Kayla Boven (Katy, Texas / Tompkins) and played the ball into the box. It deflected out to Camin, who volleyed it near the top of the box into the corner to win it.
Trinity outshot Sewanee 16-8 and put five shots on goal to Sewanee's four. Sewanee had a 4-3 edge in corners.
Trinity Jefferson (Spring, Texas / Klein Oak) made three saves for the Tigers.
