CANTON, Ga. - The Southern Athletic Association is pleased to recognize many athletes as they prepare for the Division III NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
From Centre, the men's team placed four divers on the qualifying list after a standout performance at regionals. Justin Toth won the 3-meter regional with a total score of 544.30 points while Garrett George placed third, Rowan Fitzsimmons was 5th and Brandon Anderson was 6th. On Saturday the quarter compted in the 1-meter dive where Toth took second while George, Anderson, and Fitzsimmons went 3-5-6.
On the swimming side for Centre, Tiernan Moore and Caroline Lee will make appearances. Moore will be seeking the trophy for the 100 and 200 breast while Lee has her eyes set on the 50 free.
Rhodes will send Liam Ashton, Jack Whitten, Josh Denckhoff, and Will Wertenberger to compete in the 400 medley relay, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay. Whitten also qualified in the 100 and 200 breast.
The University of the South will be sending Jonah Kearns, a Tiger diver to the championship meet. He placed 7th and 8th in the 3m and 1m diving events, respectively this past weekend in Atlanta, Georgia.
The SAA's final representation will come from Trinity University who will send Luke Fender and Jimmie Hester from the men's side. Fender is set to compete in the 1650 free and 500 free while Hester will battle in the 100 and 200 back. On the women's side, the Tigers have a quartet featuring Kaya Alvegaard-Struble, Amy Benson, Neely Burns, and Julia Carter in the 800 free relay. Alvegaard-Struble will also compete in the 200 free while Burns takes on the 200 IM, 400 IM, and 200 breast. Freshman Ava Easley also makes the cut in the 100 back as she plans to head to her first NCAA Championship.
The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will be held March 18–21 in Indianapolis, Indiana. All sessions of the championships will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
