SAA Women's Soccer Report - Sept. 8, 2026

CANTON, Ga.  – The 2026 Women's Soccer season begins with Carrington of Rhodes and Cesar of Trinity capturing week one Athlete of the Week honors.

Athletes of the Week
Offense:
Hadley Carrington | Rhodes | FR | Denver, CO – Hadley Carrington scored three goals across two victories, playing a key role in the Lynx’s offensive success. Her standout week included a game-winning goal, helping Rhodes secure an undefeated week.
 
Defense:
Malea Cesar | Trinity | SR | Portland, OR – Cesar led Trinity to a pair of wins to start the season, defeating A&M-San Antonio 7-0 and edging Mary Hardin-Baylor 2-1 on Sunday night. Cesar scored twice in the season opener at TAMUSA, including the eventual game-winner midway through the first period. She led a defense that didn't allow a shot in that game, then also gave up just two shots in the second half against UMHB to set up the comeback win.
 

Notable Performances
Offense
  • Zara McCarthy | Centre | JR | Lexington, KY – Zara McCarthy scored goals in each of Centre's 2 opening wins over D2 Kentucky Wesleyan and Wittenberg. She was also a constant threat in Centre's 1-1 draw with #2 Emory on Sunday in 64 minutes of play.
  • Anna Newland | Trinity | JR | Kirkwood, MO – Newland netted the game-winning goal against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Sunday night, scoring in the 77th minute to complete Trinity's second-half rally to earn the 2-1 win. The Tigers also defeated Texas A&M-San Antonio 7-0 to open the season.

Defense
  • Brooke Beasley | Centre | JR | Nicholasville, KY – Brooke Beasley scored a penalty goal in Centre's 3-0 opening win over D2 Kentucky Wesleyan. She also anchored a defensive unit that allowed just 1 goal in the team's opening 3 matches. She was a consistent force in the Centre's 1-1 draw against #2 Emory on Sunday, in which the defense did not allow a shot on goal over the final 64-plus minutes of play.
  • EJ Searfoss | Southwestern | SO | Bakersfield, CA – Searfoss refused to allow a goal all week with three clean sheets, playing every minute in goal against Huston Tillotson, UMHB, and ETBU. Searfoss registered 17 total saves on the week with eight against UMHB to stop a high-powered Cru offense. The Pirates finished the week 1-0-2 as Searfoss has registered 11 clean sheets in 21 career starts.
