ATLANTA (Nov. 4, 2019) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that Amryn Jeffrey (Millsaps), Andre Evans (Centre), and Jordan Gunter (Centre) have been named SAA Football Player of the Week winners.
Offense - Amryn Jeffrey - Sophomore Quarterback - Millsaps
The sophomore quarterback played well in the Majors' 49-25 win at Sewanee. He finished the game 23-for-32 passing for a career-high 377 yards. He also added four touchdown passes.
Additionally, he connected with six different receivers and now ranks third in the SAA in yards per game (211.6) and second in passing touchdowns (18).
Defense - Andre Evans - Junior Linebacker - Centre
Evans was all over the field for the Centre defense in the Colonels' 42-27 win at Rhodes. Evans was credited with 23 tackles on the day, which was two shy of the Centre single-game program record set by Adam Hay in 2007. In his total did break the SAA record for single-game tackles.
In addition to recording tackles in bulk, Evans also recorded a sack, 2.5 tackles for loss, as well as forcing and recovering a fumble.
Special Teams - Jordan Gunter - Junior Retuner - Centre
Gunter set the tone for Centre in the Colonels' 42-27 win at Rhodes. With the score tied at 7-7 in the first period, Gunter fielded a Rhodes punt and raced 75 yards to the end zone for his second career punt return touchdown. Gunter finished with 121 return yards on three returns for the day and 216 all-purpose yards with two scores for the Colonels.
