ATLANTA (Oct. 7, 2019) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) has announced that Hailey Mules of Rhodes and Shelby Young of Centre have been named SAA Field Hockey Players of the Week.
Offense - Hailey Mules - Senior Forward - Rhodes
Mules recorded 12 points in her record-breaking weekend in two games against Sewanee, totaling five goals and two assists. The senior recorded the game-winning goal and assist in the conference matchup on Saturday before earning a point in each goal on Sunday in Rhodes' 5-1 victory.
Mules's first of four goals on the day tied the game in the 12th minute and broke the SAA and program record for career goals scored. She followed that up with the game-winning assist before netting a hat trick in the second half. Her second goal of the day broke the SAA and program record for career points, set in 2016. The forward now has 56 career goals and 136 career points.
Defense - Shelby Young - Sophomore Midfielder - Centre
Young was a defensive stalwart for Centre as the Colonels outscored their two opponents, 9-1. Young and the Centre defense dominated possession to the tune of a 55-12 advantage in shots across the two games. Although primarily a defensive midfielder, Young also got into the scoring column this weekend with an assist in Centre's 7-1 victory over DePauw.
