INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 7, 2019) - Announced on Monday by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the Sewanee men's tennis program will enter its 17th NCAA Tournament this weekend at Emory University in Atlanta as they square off with USA South champion N.C. Wesleyan in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships.

Joining Sewanee and N.C. Wesleyan will be Emory, champions of the University Athletic Association and Washington & Lee, champions of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

The teams will play a single-elimination tournament with the first, second- and third rounds played at regional sites, Friday-Sunday, May 10-12, or Thursday-Saturday, May 9-11. Kalamazoo College will host the team championships finals, which will be held May 20-22 at Stowe Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Student-athletes selected to the individual championships will be announced Wednesday, May 8.

The championships provide for a 43-team tournament. Automatic qualification (AQ) is granted to 35 conference champions, which form "Pool A." Three teams will be selected from true independents and schools from conferences that do not have an automatic bid for their champions (Pool B). The remaining five teams are selected from those teams in conferences with automatic bids that did not win their conference's AQ and the remaining Pool B institutions (Pool C). The teams are geographically paired, whenever possible.

This is the 17th appearance for the Sewanee men's tennis team at the NCAA Tournament, posting a 4-16 record in such contests, earning wins in 1989, 2001, 2014, and 2016.

The two teams met up last season, and it was the Battling Bishops that ended Sewanee's season with a 5-3 result, also coming in Atlanta.

The seven-time Southern Athletic Association Regular Season and Tournament Champions enter the National Tournament with a 21-6 overall record.
