ATLANTA, Ga. (December 5, 2022) – The Southern Athletic Association has announced its basketball Players of the Week for games played during the first week of December.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Player of the Week: Russ Marr / Sewanee / Sophomore / Bryant, Ala.
After becoming just the second player in SAA history to score 50-points in a game, Russ Marr was named the men’s basketball player of the week. Against Covenant, the sophomore shot 17-of-22 from the field with four 3-pointers and hit 12-of-17 at the free throw line to record 50 points and lead the Tigers over Covenant. He also added five rebounds, two blocks, and two steals in the game. Marr then scored 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field in leading Sewanee past Centre in the SAA opener. He bolstered the stat line with four rebounds and three blocks.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Player of the Week: Keimarya Rivera / Oglethorpe / Freshman / Canton, Ga.
Behind a double-double in the SAA opener, Keimarya Rivera earned women’s basketball player of the week honors. The newcomer tallied 14 points and 13 rebounds against Berry while also recording a steal and an assist. She shot 5-of-9 from the field and 4-of-5 from the charity stripe.
