Atlanta, Ga. – All eight SAA women’s basketball teams were in action during a busy opening week to the 2023-24 season. Defending conference regular season champion Centre headlined the league with a 2-0 start to the year while Oglethorpe when 2-1. Birmingham-Southern and Berry also picked up early season victories.

Athletes of the Week:
Kenadie Lee | Berry | Junior | Sylvania, Ala. – in three games during opening week, averaged 20.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and led the Vikings to a win over Huntingdon. She shot 43 percent from the field, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, while hitting 27-of-30 at the free throw line. Against Huntingdon, the junior posted 24 points, four rebounds and two steals. Lee was just as huge during the weekend, netting 23 points against LaGrange and 15 against Piedmont.
Notable Performances:
- Haley Franklin (Millsaps) – led Millsaps in a narrow, one-point loss to Huntingdon. The junior scored 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting to go along with five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block.
- Montana Harris (Birmingham-Southern) – averaged 11.7 points and 7.7 rebounds over three opening week games. The junior recorded career highs with 21 points and nine rebounds in the season opener against Mobile.
- Lilly Reid (Centre) – scored 13 points in both Centre’s season opening games. She hit 12-of-17 from the field, including a three pointer. Against Greensboro the newcomer also added two rebounds and four assists.
- Keimarya Rivera (Oglethorpe) – averaged 12.3 points and 6.7 rebounds in three games for the Stormy Petrels. The sophomore had a big night against Ferrum with 19 points and eight rebounds, leading Oglethorpe to a victory.
