SAA SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
Mount Berry, Georgia Bracket
Four-seed Millsaps won a 6-5 thriller over five-seed Sewanee in the Mount Berry Bracket opener, but ran into top-seed juggernaut Berry in game two Friday afternoon. The Vikings moved into the championship game while the Majors and Tigers will face off in the losers bracket Saturday at noon.
Game 1: Millsaps 6, Sewanee 5
Mackenzie Fleming went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Molli Perry, Alli Nolen, and Julia Strain had two hits each to lead Millsaps. Hannah Derouen allowed three hits and a run while striking out four over four innings to pick up the win. Delta Claire Newman came on in the seventh and snuffed out a Sewanee rally to pick up a save.
Eve Bournias led the Tigers bats, hitting 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Zoe Crockett batted 2-for-4 and Alice Charboneau knocked in a pair of runs.
Millsaps led 6-3 going into the seventh before the Tigers plated two quick runs. The Majors had the go ahead run on second, but Newman was able to get the last two outs and advance in the bracket.
Game 2: Berry 14, Millsaps 0 (5inn.)
Blair Hall and Madison Hollis combined to toss a no-hitter as the No. 2 nationally ranked Vikings rolled in their first game of the SAA Tournament. Hall fanned seven and allowed just two second inning walks while Hollis picked up a strikeout in an inning of work.
Paige Bennett led the Berry bats, going 2-for-2 with four RBI and a run scored on a fourth inning, two-run homer. Morgan Frye went 4-for-4 with three runs scored while Katie White and Anna Jackson both knocked in three runs.
Berry needs just one win over the winner of the Sewanee vs. Millsaps game to advance into the championship series.
