CANTON, Ga. - SAA women’s basketball enjoyed a successful opening weekend with the seven league schools going a combined 7-4 against nonconference competition.
Centre swept a pair on the road, beating both Averett and William Peace convincingly. Berry and Oglethorpe both beat Huntingdon by double digits while Hendrix posted a win over Centenary. Millsaps and Rhodes split games against tough teams to start the year with the Majors downing Ozarks and the Lynx beating Illinois Tech.

Elyse Warren | Millsaps | Junior | Memphis, Tenn. - tallied a pair of double-doubles to help the Majors defeat the University of the Ozarks and nearly take down Berea College. Warren averaged 12.5 points and 14 rebounds with 13 points and 15 boards against the Eagles on Friday before adding 12 points and 13 rebounds hosting the Mountaineers on Sunday.
Notable Performances:
- Kenadie Lee (Berry) - led the team in their season opener against Huntingdon. The senior rallied 14 points going 9-12 from the free throw line when the Vikings needed it the most. Lee also grabbed eight rebounds in the win and two assists.
- Lilly Reid (Centre) - started for the Colonels in their two games of the season opening weekend, registered a total of 57 minutes. In the game versus Averett, Reid led the game in made baskets from the floor with five and assists with six. In the contest versus William Peace, the sophomore led the game in points, steals, and assists, putting up 21 points, stealing three, and assisting seven. In both contest, the sophomore registered double figure points, making her season average thus far 16.5 points per game. In total on the weekend, the Colonel put up 32 points, 14 made from the floor, six rebounds, 13 assists, four steals, and shot 80 percent from the line.
- Keimarya Rivera (Oglethorpe) - posted a double-double in the first game of the season, the only game of the week for the Stormy Petrels. She had a strong second half that helped Oglethorpe thwart a late rally in the win over Huntingdon.
- Avery Marsh (Rhodes) – averaged 17 points, five assists, and three rebounds in two games for the Lynx opening weekend. Against Illinois Tech, she put up 21 points and hauled in four rebounds to lead Rhodes in the win. The next day against Piedmont, the junior tallied 13 points and six assists.
