ATLANTA, Ga. (May 6, 2024) – Coming off a dominating regular season and tournament title, Berry took three major awards to highlight the 2024 Softball All-SAA teams.

Berry’s Morgan Frye was voted the SAA Athlete of the Year while teammate Ava Fouts earned both Pitcher of the Year and Newcomer of the Year honors. Birmingham-Southern leader Megan Curry was honored as Coach of the Year.

The All-SAA awards were voted on by the conference’s seven head coaches.

Frye is a four-time First Team All-SAA honoree after leading the Vikings to an 18-0 record in league play. The infielder led the conference in nearly every offensive category. She hit .638, going 30-for-47, with 23 RBIs and 30 runs scored over her 18 SAA games. Frye tallied eight doubles and three homers while striking out just four times to drawing a league-high 18 walks. She won three-straight SAA Athlete of the Week awards to start April, going 17-for-25 with 17 RBIs over a nine-game stretch. A Berry player has been voted SAA Athlete of the Year eight times, including each of the last three seasons. Frye joins teammates Katie White (2023) and Anna Jackson (2022) to win the award most recently.

Fouts made an immediate impact for the Vikings, going 6-0 with a 0.48 ERA in her six SAA appearances. In 29 innings of work, she allowed 14 hits and two earned runs while racking up 29 strikeouts. Five times she posted shutouts and had a conference-season high six strikeouts in five innings against Millsaps. Fouts gives Berry four SAA Pitcher of the Year awards, joining Kassie Howard (2018, 2016) and Marie Collop (2017) to earn the honor. She is only the third player to be named Pitcher of the Year and Newcomer of the Year in the same season with BSC standouts Margaret Axelson winning both in 2023 and Hailee Bryan doing the same in 2021.

Curry joined Birmingham-Southern in the summer of 2023 before leading the Panthers to a runner-up finish in the conference and a run into the SAA title game during her first season. She guided BSC to a 24-17 overall record and 13-5 mark in league play. They won all but one conference series and posted weekend sweeps three times. As the two seed in the SAA Tournament, Curry’s Panthers swept through their pod and split the first two games of the conference championship series with Berry before coming up short in the final. Curry mentored eight All-SAA performers this season, including first teamers Isabella Furgason, Emma Jolley, and Katie Hart. She joins Kimball Cassady (2019, 2016) as BSC coaches to be voted Coach of the Year.
