Southern Athletic Association Selected to Host 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships

CANTON, Ga. – The NCAA has selected the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) to serve as the host for the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, scheduled for March 13–14, 2026, at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.

This marks the first time in conference history that the SAA will serve as the host of an NCAA Division III national championship event — a milestone moment that underscores the conference’s growing presence and leadership within the Division III landscape.

“The Southern Athletic Association is honored to serve as the host for the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships,” said SAA Commissioner Stacey LaDew. “This is a historic moment for our conference and a tremendous opportunity to showcase our commitment to providing meaningful and impactful experiences for student-athletes. We are excited to partner with the NCAA to welcome the nation’s best to our region and deliver an exceptional championship experience that reflects the spirit and excellence of Division III athletics.”

The Birmingham CrossPlex, recognized as one of the nation’s premier indoor track and field facilities, offers a world-class competition environment featuring a 200-meter hydraulically banked track, state-of-the-art technology, and spectator-friendly amenities. The venue has previously hosted the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in 2018 and 2023, as well as numerous NCAA Division II and high school championship events.

The 2026 championships are expected to draw more than 500 of the nation’s top student-athletes representing institutions from across the country, all competing for national titles in 20 men’s and women’s events. The event will also bring coaches, fans, and families to the Birmingham area, contributing to the region’s strong tradition of hosting NCAA championship-level competition.

“Hosting a national championship aligns directly with the SAA’s mission to create meaningful and memorable experiences for our student-athletes,” LaDew added. “We are proud to help bring Division III’s highest level of competition to the South and celebrate the achievements of these outstanding student-athletes.”

The SAA’s selection reflects the conference’s continued commitment to advancing Division III athletics and its collaborative spirit in supporting opportunities that enhance the student-athlete experience both regionally and nationally.
