CANTON, Ga. - For the fifth week in a row, the Southern Athletic Association has athletes on the D3football.com Team of the Week. Week five holds two Trinity athletes.
Judson Crockett, the SAA Defensive Athlete of the Week found his way to the national team of the week after his strong performance against Southwestern. Crockett recorded six tackles (four solo) and returned two fumbles for touchdowns of 34 and 69 yards (103 total) as Trinity shut out Southwestern in the second half of a 65-14 victory. Early in the game, Crockett deflected a pass on Southwestern’s opening drive that was intercepted by a fellow Tiger, meaning he contributed to all three turnovers forced by Trinity’s defense. His first fumble return, a 34-yard score late in the second quarter, helped Trinity maintain a 16-14 halftime lead. The second, a 69-yard return, capped a dominant 28-point third quarter that secured the win.
Fellow Tiger, Luke Sams made his way to the Special Teams Team of the Week. Sams became the fourth player in Trinity football history to return a kickoff for 100 yards, leading Trinity to a 65-14 SAA win over Southwestern. After the Pirates scored late in the second quarter to make it a 16-14 game at the half, Sams set the tone for what turned out to be a 49-0 second half for Trinity by taking the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown.
