CANTON, Ga. – The SAA baseball season got underway last weekend with Berry and Rhodes both in action. The Vikings visited Emory and went 2-1, averaging more than 18 runs a game. They fell 12-11 in the opener, but swept Saturday’s double header 28-13 and 17-8. The Lynx set up shop in Shreveport and also went 2-1 on the weekend. They beat LaGrange 12-5 in the opener, fell to McMurry 23-8 and downed Huntingdon 8-7 to cap the trip.

Joey Garcia | Berry | Senior | Atlanta, Ga. - In the three game series with Emory, Garcia went 8-13 with a batting average of .615, scoring eight runs with three RBIs. He opened the weekend hitting 2-5 with a run scored Friday night. In the Saturday double header, he batted 3-5 with two RBIs and four runs scored in game one, followed by a 3-3 with three runs and an RBI performance in the series rubber match.
Pitcher:
Mick Arney | Rhodes | Senior | Collierville, Tenn. – was used twice this weekend to secure wins for the Lynx. In game one of the series Arney pitched two scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit. He returned during the second inning the next day with the bases loaded and the Lynx up by one. He recorded back to back strikeouts to get out of the jam and then threw the next six innings, scattering five hits, three runs and recording six strikeouts in an 8-7 victory.
Notable Performances:
Cooper Kuriger (Rhodes) - paced the Lynx offense for the weekend. He recorded a hit in all 4 games going 7 for 15 (.467 batting average). Kuriger scored 2 runs in the first 3 games. His big hit on the weekend came against Huntingdon with the game knotted at 7-7, Kuriger tripled to lead the 9th inning off and scored the winning run. On the weekend, Kuriger had 6 runs scored, 4 RBI with 2 doubles and a triple.
Aubrey Moraitakis (Berry) – made two appearances, throwing 2.2 innings against Emory. He allowed one hit over two frames with two strikeouts in the opener and tossed two thirds of an inning on Saturday, striking out one without allowing a hit.
