SAA Women’s Tennis Report – February 18, 2025

CANTON, Ga.  – Through the first full week of the SAA women’s tennis season, Sewanee and Berry remain undefeated in nonconference play. The Tigers are ranked No. 18 in the nation and join the Vikings at 3-0 on the year.

Athletes of the Week:
SINGLES
Brooke Despriet | Sewanee | Senior | Cumming, Ga. -  Playing at No. 1 against Southwestern University, Despriet won 5-7,6-4,6-3 versus Erica Synoski. She played in the No. 2 position in a match-up woth #26 Grinnell Despriet, defeating Paige Sargent 6-3,6-3.
 
DOUBLES:
Brooke Despriet | Sewanee | Senior | Cumming, Ga.
Ansley Carpenter | Sewanee | Senior | Newnan, Ga.
One of the nation’s top doubles tandems entering the spring, Despriet and Carpenter went undefeated for the weekend. They defeated Jarvis/Perrin of #26 Grinnell 6-2 and Lee/Synoski of Southwestern 7-5. They are currently 10-1 for the year and ranked No. 2 in the country.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Grace Williams (Centre) - has won both singles matches she has played so far in 2025. She won 7-5 and 6-4 over Lize van Veen in the second-ranked singles bout versus Randolph in a 4-3 team win. The junior then turned around and went to three sets in her solo match versus Campbellsville in order to dispatch Jimena Palomo by a scoreline of 3-6, 6-4, 11-9. She was the only solo winner for the Colonels in that match.
  • Gracie Rask (Rhodes) - went 1-0 for the weekend with a 6-0,6-0 win at the Number 1 position against Freed Hardeman University.
  • Grace Williams/Carlie Mitchell - won 7-6 over Andrea Ovejero and Valentina Curli in a no. 2 doubles match versus Campbellsville that featured a tiebreaker. It was the first pairing of Williams and Mitchell this season and the only doubles win for Centre in the match. 
  • Gracie Rask/Emma McHale (Rhodes) – against the top team from Freed Hardeman University, the Lynx No. 1 posted a 6-2 victory.
