SAA Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Year Released

CANTON, Ga. (May 14, 2025) – With the NCAA Division III National Championship a week away, the SAA has announced its Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Year.

Selections were made by the conference’s head coaches.

Senior hurdler Hugh Stokes of Rhodes was voted the Track Athlete of the Year while Centre thrower David Harless was named the Field Athlete of the Year. Sewanee middle distance standout Parker Tallman was voted the Rookie of the Year. Led by Lisa Owens, Centre was honored as the Coaching Staff of the Year and was recognized at the SAA Championship.

Stokes had a huge SAA Championship weekend, sweeping gold in the hurdles and snagging two relay medals. The senior beat his own SAA record in the 110 hurdles, stopping the clock at 14.34; the 21st best time in the nation. He then won a battle in the 400m hurdles, leaning to the line win in by the slimmest of margins and clock a record-smashing time of 52.70. The performance was more than a half second faster than the previous record and puts him 13th in the nation. Stokes also anchored the Lynx second-place 4x400m relay team and ran a leg on the third-place 4x100 relay.

Competing in his first SAA Outdoor Championship, Harless earned two golds and a runner-up finish to lead Centre in the throwing events. The first year won the shot put with a toss of 15.88m to set a new conference championship record and rank top-50 nationally. Harless picked up another gold in the discus, breaking the school record with a mark of 48.14m, also a nationally ranked toss. He was second in the hammer, breaking the school record with a throw of 50.31. Harless totaled 28 points that played a big part in the Colonels winning the SAA title.

Tallman enjoyed a breakout SAA Championship on his home track. The first year placed fourth in the 1500m run, breaking a 16-year hold Sewanee record, and stopping the clock at 4:01.28. His time was just two seconds out of first in a race that saw the top-six runners all withing three seconds of each other. Tallman earned a bronze in the 800m run, posting a time of 1:58.31. He also ran a leg on the Tigers fourth-place 4x400m relay team.

The 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set for May 22-24 at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
