SEWANEE, Tenn. – Freshman Turner Chiles was named the 2025 NCAA Division III Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award winner presented by StrackaLine, as announced at the conclusion of the NCAA Men's Golf Championships this past weekend in Penfield, N.Y.
The Houston, Texas, native registered a 71.39 scoring average in 23 rounds with five Top-10 finishes during the 2024-25 academic year. He recorded 17 rounds of 72 or better during the year, including four rounds in the 60's.
Chiles finished third at the Gate City Invitational in Greensboro, N.C., and tied for sixth at the O'Briant Jensen Memorial, also in Greensboro, among four fall tournaments. In the spring he tied for eighth at the Savannah Invitational in Savannah, Ga., placed sixth at the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate in Jekyll Island, Ga., and tied for sixth at the SAA Championships in Dickson, Tenn.
He earned SAA Co-Player of the Year, SAA Rookie of the Year, First Team All-SAA and PING All-Region IV honors. Chiles was unable to participate in the NCAA Championships because of an injury suffered just before the event.
Mitch Bolte of Wittenberg University, Myles Cunningham of Gettysburg College, Mattias Morris of Aurora University, Nilay Naik of Pomona-Pitzer, Alvin Su of the University of Rochester, and Aman Vantipalli of Babson College joined Chiles on the All-Freshman team.
