CANTON, Ga. - The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) is proud to announce a new partnership with Officially Human, an organization on a mission to “restore respect for game officials and acknowledge their authority on the fields and courts,” beginning this Fall.
"Partnering with Officially Human is a no-brainer for the SAA," said Stacey LaDew, SAA Commissioner. "We value and respect the people in the officiating ranks, and we appreciate all they do to make our athletic events possible. Without officials, there is no game — and in the midst of a national officiating shortage, we need them more than ever. This partnership is a call to our fans, parents, and communities to be respectful, responsible, and part of the solution in creating a positive environment for everyone involved."
Through this collaboration, each member institution of the SAA will gain access to a tailored suite of educational and awareness-building resources developed by Officially Human.
The SAA will also introduce a new inclusive sportsmanship statement, to be delivered at all athletic events, reinforcing the value of respect toward officials as part of the game-day culture.
ABOUT OFFICIALLY HUMAN
Officially Human was founded in 2019 by Brenda Hilton, a veteran of over two decades in collegiate officiating. The organization addresses what has become a widespread officiating crisis—driven largely by verbal abuse and disrespect—from coaches, fans, and administrators. It seeks to restore respect to game officials and recognize their authority on the fields and courts through increased education and communication to all stakeholders.
