ATLANTA - The Rhodes College men's basketball team battled in a tightly contested game but fell to Roanoke College, 88–84, in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on March 6 at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The matchup featured multiple momentum swings, with seven ties and three lead changes throughout the game.
Rhodes kept the contest close from the start, trailing 45–41 at halftime after both teams shot efficiently in the opening half. The Lynx continued to fight in the second half and matched Roanoke with 43 points after the break, but the Maroons capitalized at the free-throw line late to hold off the Rhodes comeback.
Phil Dotson led the Lynx with a game-high 27 points on 10-of-19 shooting while going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Jackson Huxtable added 18 points, knocking down three three-pointers and converting 7-of-8 free throws. Shawn Jones Jr. contributed 14 points along with four rebounds and three assists.
Jack Dempsey controlled the glass for Rhodes with nine rebounds, while the Lynx shot an efficient 47.5 percent from the field and 87.0 percent from the free-throw line as a team. Rhodes also finished with 21 assists and received 17 points from the bench, helping keep the game within reach throughout the final minutes.
The Lynx entered the NCAA Tournament after an outstanding season that included winning both the SAA regular season championship and the SAA Tournament title to secure the conference's automatic bid.
Despite the narrow loss, Rhodes concludes the season with an impressive 23–5 overall record and a 12–2 mark in SAA play, capping a championship year highlighted by conference titles and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
