Four Garner Top ITA Regional Awards

CANTON, Ga. - Five from the Southern Athletic Association have garned major regional awards from the ITA.

From Sewanee -- Freshman Samuel Schroerlucke was named ITA Rookie of the Year, and Head Coach Hamza Khan and Assistant Coach Doug Maynard were named Head and Assistant Coach of the Year for the Atlantic South Region.


Schroerlucke had a standout freshman campaign, finishing the season 20-7 and earning SAA Rookie of the Year honors. Schroerlucke, alongside Andre-Remi Jakobi, were named as first alternates in doubles for the NCAA Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. 

Head Coach Hamza Khan, in his first season at the helm, alongside Assistant Coach Doug Maynard, led the Tigers to a 22-2 record, the best record in program history, and the fewest losses since the 1956 team was 9-2. They finished the season ranked 15th in the nation and made their fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships since COVID-19, and their fourth consecutive Sweet 16 appearance. 

From Trinity -- Kishan Kersten was named the ITA Most Improved Player for the West Region. The junior from Plano, Texas, was the leagues Athlete of the Year after a 10-6 record in the Spring with an undefeated record in the SAA.

On the women's side, Lauren Tin was named the ITA Player to Watch in the West Region.
