Tigers defeat Colorado College, 4-0 in the second round of NCAA Championships

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee men's tennis team captured a 4-0 win over Colorado College in the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships on Friday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif. 

Ben Lammert and Drew Rukavina quickly got things started for the Tigers in doubles as they cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 2. At three, Max Verellen and Lucas Wrigley clinched the doubles point to send the Tigers into singles with a 1-0 lead following a 6-2 win. At one, Samuel Schroerlucke and Henry Hyden were down 4-2 when the doubles point was decided. 

In singles, Lammert added another point for Sewanee with a 6-1, 6-4 win at two, and Wrigley got the Tigers within one point of the Round of 16 with a 6-1, 6-1 win at five. At four, Verellen won the first set 6-4 and was up 4-2 in the second set, when his opponent withdrew due to injury, securing the match for the Tigers. 

With the win, Sewanee moves to 22-1, continuing a win streak that dates back to Feb. 21. 

The Tigers will face the winner of No.4-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and East Texas Baptist in the Regional Finals on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT.
