The Centre women's soccer team won the 2012 SAA Women's Soccer Championship by topping Rhodes 3-0 in Danville, Kentucky. The win not only gave the 19-1 Colonels the SAA crown, but also helped them avenge their only loss of the season, a 2-1 double overtime defeat at the hands of the Lynx.
The Colonels jumped on top with a goal in the 16th minute from Anne Mitchell. Mitchell took a perfect pass across the box from Katie Stevenson and slammed it home to put Centre on top. The lead increased in the 45th minute when Morgan Collins dribbled through the Lynx defense for an unassisted score to make it 2-0. The Colonels removed any doubt in the 69th minute with a goal off a corner kick. Mary Taylor Kersey served the ball into the box and Brittany Eisner cracked it home for the insurmountable 3-0 margin.
The Colonels finish the season with a sparkling 19-1 record and will await word from the NCAA on a berth to the 2012 Tournament.
