  • Offensive Player of the Week:  Matthew Seran / Centre / Jr. / Louisville, Ky.After posting a hat trick and leading Centre to a pair of SAA wins, Seran was named the conference offensive player of the week. On Friday against Millsaps, the junior tallied the game’s first goal and added two more second half scores at the Colonels went on to beat the Majors 11-0. Hosting BSC on Sunday, Seran got off two shots and was a catalyst to the Centre offense, leading to a key 2-1 SAA victory. 

    Defensive Player of the Week:  James Leone / Hendrix / So. / Lindenhurst, Ill. For the second-straight week, the Hendrix keeper posted the conference’s standout performance. In two games, the sophomore tallied nine saves and allowed just one goal to get Hendrix in position to play for a conference title. Against Oglethorpe, he racked up six saves and kept a clean sheet in a scoreless draw. Two days later, Leone grabbed three saves and allowed one goal at Berry. 

    • The final game of the season will decide the 2022 SAA champion when Hendrix hosts Rhodes in Conway on Saturday night. The Lynx will be crowned champions with a win or a draw, but the Warriors will take the title with a victory. Sewanee is also guaranteed a quarterfinal home game while the winner of Berry and Oglethorpe will take the No. 4 seed and final quarters home game. First round games take place on campus sites; the semifinals/finals will be hosted by the top remaining seed. 
    • Rhodes leads the nation in save percentage, stopping 93 percent of SOG; the Lynx are also sixth nationally in goal differential with 36 goals scores and just four against. Rhodes has posted a shutout in 71 percent of its games, third best nationally. 
    • Michael Fenton (RHO) leads the country in shutouts (10) and save percentage (0.930) and is second in the nation in goals against average (0.240). 
    • Primin Blattmann (BSC) is 16th in the country with 0.62 assists a game. 
    • Coleman Jennings (BSC) tops the SAA in scoring with 24 points (10 goals, 4 assists). 
    • In the polls; Sewanee is ranked No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches Region VI poll. Rhodes is No. 6. 
  • Offensive Player of the Week: Bella Nelson / Centre / Jr. / Columbia, Md. Nelson totaled seven points, leading Centre to a pair of victories and into a tie for the conference lead heading into the final week. The junior scored the game winner against Millsaps, leading to a 2-0 Colonels victory. Hosting BSC on Sunday, Nelson tallied two goals and an assist, adding a pair of shots to Centre’s team record 29 attempts on the day. 

    Defensive Player of the Week:  Kate Thomson / Sewanee / So. / New Orleans, La. Thomson played every minute in a pair of SAA shutout wins for Sewanee. She anchored a back line that allowed five total shots and just two on goal. Against BSC, the Tigers surrendered only three shots and then held Millsaps to a pair of early looks before putting on the clamps and not allowing a shot in the second half. Due in large part to Thomson, Sewanee has conceded only one goal during its current six-game winning streak. 

    • Centre, Sewanee, and Berry are tied atop the SAA standings heading into the final game of the regular season. The Colonels visit the Tigers on Saturday, while Berry holds the tiebreaker and can clinch the top seed in the tournament with a win over Oglethorpe. Should OU win, the winner of Centre vs. Sewanee will be the top seed; if it ends in a draw, the SAA tiebreaker process will be applied. First round games take place on campus sites; the semifinals/finals will be hosted by the top remaining seed. 
    • Sewanee has the SAA’s longest winning streak at six with five being shutouts. The Tigers outscored opponents 9-1 during the span. 
    • Centre ranks 16th in the nation with 47 goals scored on the season. 
    • Sewanee’s Leah Atkins is 17th nationally in goals against average, allowing 0.444 scores a game. 
    • Mills Mullen of Centre is eighth nationally with 10 assists on the season. She is the top scorer in the SAA with 26 points; eight goals and 10 assists. 
    • In the rankings; Centre received votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll. In region, Centre is ranked No. 5. 
  • Offensive Player of the Week:  Jacob Wood / Hendrix / Sr. / Bee Branch, Ark. Accounting for five touchdowns; three in the air and two more on the ground, Wood led Hendrix to a convincing 48-21 win over Sewanee. The senior threw for 346 yards with touchdown strikes of seven yards, 42 yards and 15 yards to highlight a 23-for-28 day passing. Wood plunged into the endzone from a yard out for the first score of the game and later added a three-yard rushing TD to cap off a 99-yard drive in the second quarter. 

    Defensive Player of the Week: Ezra Gore / Trinity / Sr. / McKinney, Texas Gore had a pick-six in the middle of the third quarter to seal-up Trinity’s sixth-straight win and keep the Tigers perfect on the season. The senior tallied two solo tackles from his DB spot on the day, including one for a three-yard loss. His 21-yard interception return pushed the score to 38-0, later resulting in a 45-0 Trinity shutout at Rhodes. 

    Special Teams Player of the Week: Blake Lin / Trinity / So. / Tyler, Texas Lin put up big numbers in the kicking game in Trinity’s shutout of Rhodes. The sophomore was a perfect 6-for-6 in PAT’s and drilled a season-best 34-yard field goal early in the second quarter. His eight kickoffs traveled a total of 467 yards, averaging 58.4 yards per boot. 

    • SAA road teams (Trinity, Berry) won two games while home teams Hendrix and Birmingham-Southern both posted victories. Berry spoiled Centre’s homecoming with a blocked PAT in overtime to escape Danville with a 31-30 victory. BSC (28-0) over Millsaps and Trinity (45-0) over Rhodes both posted shutouts. 
    • Trinity is one of just 21 unbeaten teams left in NCAA Division III. 
    • Trinity is 34th in the nation in passing offense, throwing for 278.2 yard a game. 
    • Trinity ranked 15th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 10.7 points a game. The Tigers have Division III’s fifth ranked rushing defense, surrendering only 34.2 yards on the ground. 
    • Millsaps has lost just two turnovers this season, the sixth best mark in the nation. 
    • Tucker Horn (Trinity) ranks eighth in the nation in completion percentage (72 percent) and 37th in total offense, accounting for 265.3 yards a game. 
    • Zach Ford (BSC) leads the nation in field goal percentage, hitting 6-for-6 with a long of 42 yards. Teammate Aidan Hood is sixth nationally in punting with 42.4 yards per kick. 
    • Michael McGhee (Sewanee) is eighth in Division III with 7.5 yards per carry. 
    • Armon Wells of Centre is 64th in the nation with nine tackles a game. 
    • In the Polls; Trinity checked in at No. 7 in the D3football.com poll and No. 6 in the coaches poll. BSC received votes in both ranking. 
  • Offensive Player of the Week:  Sheela Vasan / Rhodes / So. / Dallas, Texas Vasan came up big on the offensive end and helped run Rhodes winning streak to eight games. In the first of two clashes with Marian, the sophomore scored the second goal of the game to push the Lynx ahead 2-0. They would go on to win 4-0 on the afternoon. The following day she tallied two goals, both in the second half, and powered Rhodes to a 4-0 win. 

    Defensive Player of the Week: Emily Binley / Concordia / Sr. / Suffolk, Va. Binley totaled 14 saves over the course of two games, which included an SAA shoutout of Transylvania. Against the Pioneers, she stopped three shots and helped the Falcons post a 4-0 victory; her fourth shutout of the season. The next day at Wooster, Binley racked up 11 saves and kept Fighting Scots off the board before Concordia eventually fell 1-0 in overtime. 

    • With two weeks left in the regular season, Rhodes and Centre emerged as the last two schools unbeaten in SAA play. They will meet on Oct. 23 in Memphis for what has become a virtural SAA regular season championship match. 
    • Rhodes has won eight in a row, outscoring teams 34-2 during the span which also includes six shutouts. 
    • Centre has won its last two and is outscoring SAA opponents 16-2 this season. 
    • Rhodes ranks 12th in the nation in scoring margin at +3.12 and ranks 12th with 4.00 goals per game. 
    • The Lynx are 13th in goals against average (0.80) and 10th in shutouts per game (0.55). 
    • The Colonels rank 15th in the nation in save percentage, stopping 81 percent of shots. 
    • Sophie Croci (Rhodes) is sixth in the nation with 1.45 goals per game and 3.55 points per game. 
    • Allyson Nichols of Marian is 25th nationally in goals, scoring 1.00 a contest. 
    • Sewanee’s Claire Damare is 12th nationally with 10.80 saves a game. 
    • Rhodes’ Riley Marzola is 10th in Division II in goals against average, surrendering 0.67 goals a game. 
  • Offensive Player of the Week: Molly Bergin / Berry / Sr. / Cumming, Ga. Bergin led Berry to a big week with three wins; two in the SAA and a 3-0 victory over sixth-ranked Emory. She hit better than .400 in all three matches, posting a .490 percentage. Against Hendrix she tallied 12 kills, hit .611 and added three aces, five digs and six blocks. For the week, she averaged 3.5 kills a set, having just three errors on 51 swings while also contributing five aces and nine blocks. .

    Defensive Player of the Week: Kate Whittle / Berry / So. / Louisville, Ky. Sophomore libero Whittle commanded a tough Berry defense that posted sweeps over sixth-ranked Emory, Rhodes, and Hendrix. She tallied an amazing 6.67 digs a set over the three matches. The sophomore recorded 22 digs against Emory, 21 at Rhodes and 17 against Hendrix – each a match-high. Her play kept Berry tied with BSC atop the SAA standings heading into the final conference week of the regular season. 

    • Berry and Birmingham-Southern are tied atop the SAA standings heading into the final game of the regular season. The Panthers host the Vikings on Saturday night to decide the 2022 SAA regular season champion. Berry won the earlier match-up 3-0 in the Cage Center. The winner will also host the SAA Tournament, November 4-6. 
    • BSC is riding a seven-game winning streak, the longest current run in the SAA. Berry had won 13 in a row earlier in the year. 
    • Berry is fourth in the country in hitting percentage (0.261) and holds opponents to a ninth-best 0.086. The Vikings are also third nationally in blocks per set at 2.50. 
    • Centre is 30th in Division III with 1,065 total kills and 25th nationally with 3.204 total attacks. 
    • Kate Whittle (Berry) is 12th in the nation with 5.89 digs per set. Madi Barron (Centre) is 30th with 415 total digs. 
    • Emily Rapach (Berry) ranks 10th nationally with 10.28 assists per set; BSC’s Ainsley Schultz is 14th (10.05) and Hendrix Kyler Greenlee 15th (10.03). 
    • In the rankings: Berry moved up to No. 8 in the latest AVCA national ranking; BSC received votes. 
  • Men’s Runner of the Week: Bradshaw Lathbury / Berry / Sr. / Woodstock, Ga. Lathbury successfully defended home turf, winning the Berry Invitational. The senior posted a time of 24:53 on the 8k course, leading the field of 166 runners across all divisions. The Vikings won the team trophy as well, scoring 25 points to beat Georgia Tech by 30. 

    Women’s Runner of the Week: Gracie West / Centre / Fr. / Louisville, Ky. West posted a career-best time to finish 49th at the Inter-Regional Rumble in Oberlin. The freshman covered the 6k in 23:31 to finish 49th among a huge field of 282 runners. As a team, Centre took third against 33 other schools, scoring 177 points. 

    • Oglethorpe at UAB Blazer Classic; The OU women finished 12th of 17 teams at the UAB Blazer Classic. Riley led the Stormy Petrals with an 82nd place finish and time of 24:54...The men’s squad finished ninth of 18 teams. Beck James was the top finisher for OU, taking 42nd in 25:57. 
    • Birmingham-Southern at UAB Blazer Classic; the BSC women ran as individuals and were led by Caroline Teal’s 116th place finish in 27:20. The men finished 13th of the 18 schools. Noah Arrington was the Panthers top finisher, taking 88th in 27:20. 
    • Berry at Berry Invitational; The Vikings women finished second to Georgia Tech at their home meet. Asena Anderson was 13th in 24:25 to lead the way. The Berry men’s squad won with 25 points, led by individual champion Bradshaw Lathbury’s time of 24:53. 
    • Sewanee at Berry Invitational; The Tigers women finished fourth with 114 points and were led by Emma Grace Hendrickson’s 19th place finish in 24:38; the men were eighth and paced by Sam Kearley in 61st (28:19). 
    • Millsaps ran at the ETBU Invitational. The Majors women were runner-up with 43 points. Claire Howard led the way with a sixth place finish (26:17). The Millsaps men took fifth, led by Patrick Elliott in fifth (27:38). 
    • Centre at the Oberlin Inter-Region Rumble; The Colonel women finished third of 32 teams; Sophie Bouldin was eighth in 22:25. The Centre men took 18th and were led by Preston Dickerson’s 65th place finish (27:51). 
    • Rhodes at the Oberlin Inter-Region Rumble; The Lynx women finished 31st with Vivian Kalb in 135th (24:59) leading the way; the men finished were 22nd with Owen Foster pacing the team in 107th (27:03).

Men’s Swimmer of the Week: 
Bryan Sullivan / Millsaps / Grad / Jackson, Tenn.
Sullivan won two of three individual events against Montevallo on Saturday. He won the 100-yard IM in 53.20 and the 100-yard backstroke in 53.18. The graduate student also posted a runner-up finish in the 50-yard freestyle (21.50).

  • Bryan Sullivan’s (Millsaps) 50 free time of 21:04 at Delta State still ranked second in the nation. He is fifth nationally in the 100 butterfly (51.41) and leads the nation in the 100 IM (53.50)
  • Daniel Snyder (Rhodes)’s 1000 time of 9:47.65 ranks No. 2 nationally, his is also eighth in the 500 free (4:45.60)
  • Rhodes 400 free relay has the seventh best time in the nation (3:14.44).

Women’s Swimmer of the Week: Adeline Carroll / Rhodes / So. / Vestavia Hills, Ala.
Carroll continued a hot start to her season, winning two individual events and a relay against Division II powerhouse Delta State. The sophomore posted a time of 1:57.72 to win the 200-yard freestyle and also took first in the 200-yard IM, stopping the clock at 2:11.72. Both times are top the SAA thus far this season. Carroll also swam a leg in the Lynx winning 400-yard freestyle relay.

  • Anneliese Thomas of Centre has the nation’s top time in the 50 back (17.78) set against Washington & Lee.
  • Adeline Carroll’s (Rhodes) 2:26.68 in the 200 breaststroke against Millsaps ranked No. 8 in Division III. 
  • Eliza Hulverson (Rhodes) is fourth in the nation in the 50 fly (26.76)
  • Centre’s 200 free relay team is 10th nationally (1:40.91).

    Oglethorpe’s Michael O’Sullivan turned in scores of 68-69-70 and took medalist honors at the Golfweek Fall Invitational. His six-under beat the field by three shots. Blake Farbman led Berry in a tie for 24th at six over (74-71-74); Ryan Demit of Sewanee tied for 32nd at seven over (74-71-75); Foster Wood of Rhodes tied for 52nd (77-69-77) and Centre’s Jiles Wyatt tied for 22nd with rounds of 72-68-77.

    Sarah Hsu of Oglethorpe shot scores of 66-73-74 to finish third with a three-under 213. Margaret Butts tied for 29th to lead Centre, shooting 15-over. Emily Mu tied for 45th to lead Rhodes, finishing 20-over.  Sewanee was led by Merrick Semans in a tie for 35th (+17) and Berry’s Teagan Fritts tied for 37th at 18-over.
